Honoring the Loved Ones Lost in Mondi
Apr 06, 2021

March Held April 5th, 2021 "Honor the Loved Ones Lost in Mondi"

A workers’ march was held Monday, April 5th, 2021 to “Honor the Loves Lost in Mondi”, outside the Leonia factory of Mondi, which describes itself as “a global leader in packaging and paper.” The march is being held to commemorate workers who have died at the Mondi’s plant during the COVID-19 pandemic and to support the 16 employees there who were fired by the multinational for organizing to demand PPE and other health and safety measures in what organizers describe as “the company’s drive to silence the workers.” For Mondi Group, making a profit during the pandemic was more valuable than the human lives of its employees. Teamsters Local 177 and Joint Council 73 marched in solidarity with the workers of Mondi to commemorate the two coworkers who died of COVID-19 and to protest against what they describe as “large corporations who cut corners to make as much profit as possible during the pandemic while leaving workers to suffer.”
